What does the Heating control do?

Heating Modes of Operation

The OWL Intuition heating control manages the temperature of your home at all times (24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days of the year).  Each heating zone Room Sensor is always in one of the following five modes:

i. Comfort Period

Like a conventional heating control, the Heating Time Clock initially defines at what times you would like your home to be maintained at a comfortable Target temperature. These periods are known as Comfort Periods.

a. Warm Up - Unlike most heating controls, OWL Intuition is intelligent and calculates at what time it needs to switch the heating on to be at your Target temperature for the Start Time you have defined. OWL Intuition takes into account different factors such as your current local weather conditions.

b. Cool Down - Likewise OWL Intuition will determine when to switch the heating off, in advance of the Comfort heating period ending. 

Intelligent Warm Up and Cool Down take the guesswork out of making your home comfortable for the times you need, whilst saving energy.

c. Boost - If you are feeling cold then the Heating Boost function will turn the heating on (if necessary) with a target of current room temperature + 1°C for one hour and then revert to previous mode and settings. You can configure temperature and time to suit your personal preferences (Heating Settings). 

ii. Standby Period

In normal day-to-day operation, whenever OWL Intuition is not in a Comfort Period, it is in Standby mode. During these periods OWL Intuition will maintain a single Target temperature (configurable). For best economy your Standby temperature would normally be set at a low enough level such that the Standby heating will only come on during exceptionally cold weather. 

iii. Away

When you are away from your home for an extended period of time, OWL Intuition can be put into a special Away mode. When in Away mode, OWL Intuition will maintain a frost protection temperature (configurable) for your home and hot water tank (if Tank Sensor is also installed).

iv. Holiday

Similar to Away mode, OWL Intuition can be preset as to when you will be away on holiday (start date & return date). When in Holiday mode, OWL Intuition will maintain a single Target temperature (configurable) for your home and hot water tank (if Tank Sensor is also installed).

v. Summer Mode

OWL Intuition automatically switches to Summer Mode between user configurable start and end dates. When in Summer Mode, OWL Intuition will maintain a frost protection temperature (configurable) for your home. When in Summer Mode, you can revert to the normal heating time clock by pressing the Comfort button. At midnight Summer Mode will be automatically activated again. Hot Water control, if fitted, is NOT affected by Summer Mode.

    I work shifts so using a timer doesn't work for me, the best way is for me to switch the heating on when I need , and off when I want it off. The only function I see is the boost button to do this, but from what I understand this only puts the heating on for an hour. how can I switch it on until I want it off?

    Hello,
    My Room Sensors went in to Summer Mode on 1st May, but I can not see how to change them back to normal mode ?

    I find the away and holiday limits of 15 degrees too low for my older house.  Only option is to leave in standby and remove all the daily settings to allow setting say 16 degrees.    Reading the Away description it implies its more for Frost Protection so the setting is somewhat misleading

    This year, I'm not observing this behaviour at all.

    Comfort setting is acknowledged by the app notification green bar and "Update to Room Sensor Pending message, however when in summer mode, this command is ignored and the controls remain in summer mode.

    Boost is acknowledged, however comfort is not.

    I've tried power cycling the network OWL, no change, my home network and router have not been changed etc. the only apparent trigger for this behaviour is entering summer mode.

    R2d2hp, you can change the standby, holiday and away temps via the settings cog on the owl intuition dashboard.

    Bit of a shame that you posted that over three months ago, and nobody told you though.

    @Nookster, I have exactly the same problem. Reported it on 3rd May but no joy yet.

    Also, its a pain having to hold down the Away button to activate Away mode. Its single-use so why not just work like a normal button with a short press?

    Hi Nookster

     

    The issue I have is the default temps that are set in the firmware.  I don't see why they should be imposed and cannot be individually selected by the users.

    Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one. I won't raise a ticket, seeing as you already have Tony.

    However if they don't get back to you it might be an idea if we all submit support requests, if only to get them to take notice. It's looking like it isn't an isolated issue.

    I chased it on Friday but no response, although I guess its only a couple of working days ago. FYI, ticket number is 18531.

    I'll hang fire for a bit then.

    Here's my setup with firmware versions, on the off-chance it helps anybody.

    Network OWL

    Well, I noticed the firmware update for the Network OWL.

    So I updated, turned on summer mode, tried to enter comfort mode, still not working.

     

    Also, R2d2hp, sorry, I don't know why I didn't notice your post last month, but you can change the individual temperatures to anything you want, you just click on the temp numbers and adjust them to suit, you can change the boost temp and duration too,

    Unfortunately the interface is a kludge, it's not something you would want to do very often.
